With values rooted in Native cultural and spiritual practices, Shilo praises her communities as the sources of her inspiration, resiliency, and drive. While seeking her graduate degree, Shilo found herself confronted with depression and in a state of despair, as though she had fallen in a “deep dark hole.” She couldn’t find her way out—therapy, medication, nothing seemed to help. In this time of desperation, she called on her ancestors for help. They answered, encouraging the use of her creative skills to build a way out of the darkness. From this her healing framework, the Body Sovereignty Project, was born.Drawing from her experiences as a survivor of abuse, Shilo created the Body Sovereignty Project as a trauma-informed framework that focuses on healing relationships with food, being in-body for movement, and healing around sexual trauma. Realizing the positive impact the Body Sovereignty Project could have in her communities, Shilo sought opportunities to share the framework and increase the availability of equitable health care for deviant body types.” Tentative Schedule Day 1 10 am - 5 pm Registration table open 12:00 pm - 12: 45 pm Welcome luncheon (provided) 12:45 pm - 1:00 pm Break 1:00 pm - 3 pm All Attendees Session 3:00 - 3:15 break 3:15 - 4:30 pm Program sharing 6 pm - 8 pm Networking dinners at local restaurants (on own) Day 2 8:30am - 5 pm OTA registration table open 9 am - 10 am breakfast (provided) 10 am - 11:15 am concurrent sessions 11:15-11:25 break 11:30 - 12:30 Keynote - Shilo George 12:30 - 1:20 lunch (provided) 1:30 pm- 2:45 pm concurrent sessions 2:45 - 2:55 break 3:00 pm - 4:15 pm concurrent sessions 4:15 pm - 5:30 concurrent sessions 5:30 pm start time no host bar/silent auction 6:00:00 PM - 8 PM President's dinner (provided) & live auction 8 am - 9 am breakfast - OTA business meeting 9:15 am - 10:30 am concurrent sessions 10:40 am - 11: 55 am All attendee session

The Oregon TRIO Association is a 501(c)3 organization that advocates on behalf of low income and first generation college students in the state of Oregon. Our mission is to increase the number of low income and underrepresented students in higher education. The Oregon TRIO Association is a member of the Northwest Association of Educational Opportunity Programs (NAEOP), which represents Region X TRIO programs in Alaska, Washington, Idaho, and Oregon. TRIO programs emerged from the Civil Rights Voting Act of 1964, and have since been established by the continual reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, first enacted into law in 1967. TRIO programs include Educational Talent Search, Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math-Science, Veteran's Upward Bound, Educational Opportunity Centers, Student Support Services, the Ronald McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program, and TRIO Training Grants. TRIO programs assist students with career exploration, college admissions, college preparation, financial aid, scholarships, and college retention and graduation.
